KS1 – Year 1/2 - Holly Base

Welcome to Holly 1!

In Holly 1, children begin their exciting journey into Key Stage 1, building on the strong foundations laid in the Early Years. Our classroom is a vibrant, nurturing space where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to learn. We focus on developing independence, curiosity, and confidence through a broad and balanced curriculum that encourages children to explore, question, and grow.

Learning in Holly 1 is active and hands-on, with a strong emphasis on practical experiences that help children make sense of the world around them. We encourage resilience and a growth mindset, helping children to embrace challenges and learn from mistakes. Through rich discussions, creative tasks, and collaborative learning, children develop the skills they need to become thoughtful, reflective learners who are ready to succeed as they move through school.

Each half term, children in Holly 1 take turns participating in Forest School, led by a trained Forest School leader. These sessions offer a wonderful opportunity to learn outdoors, build teamwork, and develop problem-solving skills in a natural environment. Activities include den building, nature art, bug hunting, storytelling around the fire circle, and learning how to use simple tools safely. Forest School helps children grow in confidence, resilience, and independence while deepening their connection to the world around them.

Learning in Holly 2 is active and engaging, with opportunities for practical exploration alongside more structured tasks that prepare children for Key Stage 2. We encourage resilience and a growth mindset, helping children to tackle challenges positively and learn from mistakes. Through collaborative projects, creative activities, and meaningful discussions, children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, becoming reflective learners ready for the next stage of their education.

Twice a year, Holly 2 children enjoy Forest School sessions led by a trained Forest School leader. These outdoor experiences promote teamwork, independence, and a love of nature. Activities include den building, nature art, bug hunts, storytelling around the fire circle, and learning to use simple tools safely.
